Job Description

Your subject, your classroom and learners who need you to believe in them: that's this independent primary school in Cape Town CBD. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll be based at an independent primary school in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers
  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them

What you need

  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach

Helpful, not essential

  • Honours degree in your subject or in education management
  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education
  • Coaching experience in a major school sport

What you get

  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • School holidays in line with the school calendar

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): police clearance issued in the last 6 months, certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record plus two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 8 working days.
