Job Description

Your subject, your classroom and learners who need you to believe in them: that's this public high school in Isando. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is in Isando (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

  • Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
  • Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term

You'll need

  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach

Helpful, not essential

  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
  • Coaching experience in a major school sport

On offer

  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Paid SACE CPTD workshops

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Isando really suit you before you apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: police clearance issued in the last 6 months, two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself plus certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 10 working days, usually by phone.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
  • Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
