Aftercare Supervisor (Primary School)

You'll care for and teach young children at a workplace day care centre in Pietermaritzburg, from nappies to first letters. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll report in Pietermaritzburg. Relocation is not covered for this one. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went

• Paediatric first aid certificate
• Warm, patient and energetic with small children
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Matric

• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities
• Experience with children with special needs
• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach

• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
