Agricultural Diesel Mechanic (Tractors & Harvesters)

You'll service and repair heavy diesel vehicles for the municipal bus depot in Johannesburg CBD. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a municipal bus depot in Johannesburg CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines

• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs

• Hydraulic systems training
• Auto electrical skills
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
