Agricultural Diesel Mechanic (Tractors & Harvesters) – Fixed-Term

Keep trucks on the road and earning at the agricultural equipment dealer in Newcastle. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Newcastle-based, with most of your time spent at an agricultural equipment dealer. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles

• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs

• Hydraulic systems training
• Auto electrical skills
• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles

• Standby and call-out allowance
• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Overtime available most weeks

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
