Air-Conditioning Technician (Split & VRF Systems)

You'll install, service and repair refrigeration and aircon systems across Durban Central. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is Durban Central-based, with most of your time spent at a supermarket refrigeration contractor. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Diagnose faulty compressors, fans, contactors and control boards
• Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them
• Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers
• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls

• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat

• Building management system alarm handling
• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores

• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges

• Your SAQCC Gas card must be current. Put the expiry date on your CV so nobody has to ask.
• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
