Job Description

Keep cold rooms cold and offices cool for the air-conditioning maintenance company in Midrand. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Midrand, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

The work, day to day

Check chiller log sheets and water treatment on building service visits
Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers
Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them

What you need

At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate
Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat

Helpful, not essential

Building management system alarm handling
Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
