Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA) – Fixed-Term

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy franchised passenger vehicle dealership in Brackenfell. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a franchised passenger vehicle dealership in Brackenfell. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Write clear job card notes on what you found and what you fixed
• Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay

• Your own basic toolbox
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained. Say if you were working for yourself or doing mobile repairs.
