Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA)

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy used car dealership workshop in Paarl. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Paarl-based, with most of your time spent at an used car dealership workshop.

• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering

• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• Your own basic toolbox

• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience
• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy

• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
