Apprentice Motor Mechanic (merSETA) – Experienced

You'll service, diagnose and repair cars in a busy independent service workshop in Prospecton. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The work is in Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services

• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets

• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration

• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates

• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
