Artisan Assistant (Mining Engineering) – Fixed-Term

When production stops, the artisans get it going again. The iron ore mine maintenance workshop near Midrand needs you on that team. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Midrand; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface
• Help with rope inspections and shaft maintenance during scheduled stoppages
• Guide and teach an artisan assistant on the job
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Repair and align conveyor belt drives, pulleys and idlers
• Test and maintain flameproof electrical equipment in coal sections
• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure

• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work
• Willing to do standby and call-outs on a roster
• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan, preferably on a mine
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)

• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM
• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications
• Housing support in the mining town
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay

• Mention underground or flameproof experience clearly. It separates mine-ready artisans from factory artisans.
• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
