Artisan Assistant (Mining Engineering) – Immediate Start

Planned maintenance, breakdowns and shutdowns: steady artisan work at the coal mine engineering workshop near Secunda. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The site is in Secunda; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Guide and teach an artisan assistant on the job
• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Take part in weekend shutdowns for major overhauls
• Repair and align conveyor belt drives, pulleys and idlers
• Test and maintain flameproof electrical equipment in coal sections
• Fault-find hydraulic, electrical and engine faults on trackless machines
• Complete job cards and work orders in SAP after each task

• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Willing to do standby and call-outs on a roster
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan, preferably on a mine
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)

• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress
• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Housing support in the mining town
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
