Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care)

Steady household work in a retired couple's cottage in Brackenfell, with clear days and hours agreed upfront. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Location: Brackenfell, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry

• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Good with children and patient
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines

• Non-smoker
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Experience caring for an older person

• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
