Au Pair / Nanny (After-School Care)

You'll keep a family home in Hammarsdale clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Hammarsdale-based, with most of your time spent at a family home. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards

• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines

• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Experience caring for an older person

• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
