Automotive Technician (Diagnostics) – Immediate Start

Good with a scan tool and a torque wrench? This used car dealership workshop in Pietermaritzburg needs you in a bay. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is an used car dealership workshop on the Pietermaritzburg side of KwaZulu-Natal. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Quote extra work you find and pass it to the service advisor for approval
• Keep your bay, tools and special service tools clean and counted
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval

• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks

• Automatic gearbox or DSG repair experience
• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy
• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration

• Tool allowance or tool insurance
• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Manufacturer training courses paid by the dealer

• If you hit or beat your sold-hour target, say by how much. Workshop managers love that number.
• Attach manufacturer training certificates. They can move you up a technician grade and pay band.
