Job Description

Guests at this beachfront cocktail bar in Pietermaritzburg come back for the people, and you'll be one of the reasons. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The work is in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

The work, day to day

Take orders on the POS tablet and read them back to avoid kitchen mistakes.
Check back two minutes after mains land and fix problems on the spot.
Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
Restock the bar fridges and help with the weekly stock count.

Must-haves

Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts

Helpful, not essential

A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
Responsible Service of Alcohol training
