Berry Picker (Tunnel Farm)

Outdoor work with your hands on a wine farm near Burgersfort; no experience needed for most posts. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a wine farm on the Burgersfort side of Limpopo. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently

• Available for the full harvest season
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Valid ID or work permit
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
