Berry Picker (Tunnel Farm)

Harvest time on a citrus farm near Epping means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Epping-based, with most of your time spent at a citrus farm.

• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety

• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Valid ID or work permit
• Available for the full harvest season

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Living on or near the farm

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
