BI Developer (SQL Server and SSIS)

You'll turn messy data into reports managers actually use, for a short-term insurer in George. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a short-term insurer. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Meet business users to turn their questions into report requirements
• Check data quality and trace odd numbers back to the source
• Build simple forecasting and segmentation models in Python or R
• Automate weekly reports that used to take hours in Excel
• Build ETL pipelines in SSIS, Azure Data Factory or Python

• Able to explain what the numbers mean, not just show them
• Strong SQL, including joins, window functions and CTEs
• At least 2 years in a data or reporting role (not needed for graduate posts)
• Hands-on Power BI, Tableau or a similar tool

• Paid cloud and BI certifications
• Hybrid work with two office days
• Annual bonus tied to company performance

• Build one public portfolio dashboard on a South African open data set if you have no work samples to share.
• Put SQL and your BI tool in the first line of your CV; these are the keywords every data recruiter searches.
