Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

Strong welding and plate work for the trailer and truck body builder in Montague Gardens, with real drawings and real tolerances. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll report in Montague Gardens. Relocation is not covered for this one. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience
• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
