Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

The trailer and truck body builder in Mossel Bay needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

You'll be based at a trailer and truck body builder in Mossel Bay. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs

• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Coding renewals paid by the employer

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
