Boilermaker (Structural Steel Fabrication)

Strong welding and plate work for the trailer and truck body builder in Prospecton, with real drawings and real tolerances. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector

• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience

• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Coding renewals paid by the employer

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
