Bookkeeper to Trial Balance (Sage Pastel)

A small accounting practice in Worcester needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work is in Worcester, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• Matric with Accounting
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks
• Experience with debt collection letters and handover to attorneys

• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Office hours with no weekend work

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
