Bricklayer's Assistant

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a school building project in Alberton. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Alberton; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work

• Grade 8 or higher
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
