Bricklayer's Assistant – Permanent

Every wall and slab on this school building project in Polokwane needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

The work is in Polokwane, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Grade 8 or higher
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather

• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
