Bricklayer's Assistant

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in Worcester can keep building. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a townhouse construction site in Worcester. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Grade 8 or higher
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
