Job Description

You'll build and ship features that real users touch every day, for a bank's digital channels team in Somerset West. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Somerset West, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

Handle personal data safely, with POPIA rules in mind
Deploy through a CI/CD pipeline on Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab
Review teammates' pull requests with useful comments
Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries

Must-haves

Experience writing automated tests
Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
Good SQL and understanding of relational databases
Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people

Helpful, not essential

Public GitHub portfolio or published app
Experience in regulated sectors such as banking or medical schemes
