Candidate Attorney (Commercial Law) – Fixed-Term

Court runs, drafting and client consultations: a small general practice law firm in Prospecton will put you to work from week one. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll report in Prospecton. Relocation is not covered for this one. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
• Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work
• Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
• Keep matter files updated and diarise court dates and deadlines
• Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review

• Good legal research and clear written English
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
• Clear criminal record, as required for admission
• Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs

• Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school
• Second official language used by the firm's clients

• Study leave for board exams
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Mentorship from an experienced principal
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms

• Attach a short legal writing sample; firms judge candidates heavily on drafting.
• Put your LLB, university and graduation year at the top, and your average mark if it's above 65%.
