• Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
• Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
• Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review
• Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work

• Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
• Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
• Clear criminal record, as required for admission
• Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
• Good legal research and clear written English

• Moot court or legal clinic experience
• Vacation work at a law firm

• Paid PLT course fees at some firms
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Mentorship from an experienced principal
• Study leave for board exams
