Job Description

A small general practice law firm in Bellville has space for a law graduate ready to start practical vocational training. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The site is in Bellville; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

What you'll actually do

  • Record your time on the practice management system every day
  • Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
  • Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
  • Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
  • Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials

You'll need

  • Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
  • Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
  • Clear criminal record, as required for admission
  • LLB degree from a South African university

On offer

  • Travel allowance for court runs
  • Study leave for board exams
  • Paid PLT course fees at some firms
  • Mentorship from an experienced principal

How to apply

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): copy of your driver's licence, short writing sample, such as a legal opinion or memorandum plus LLB degree certificate and full academic record.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 8 working days.
