Job Description

Court runs, drafting and client consultations: a legal aid office in Somerset West will put you to work from week one. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The work is in Somerset West, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

What you'll actually do

Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review
Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
Record your time on the practice management system every day

What you need

Good legal research and clear written English
LLB degree from a South African university
Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
Clear criminal record, as required for admission
