Job Description

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The municipal electricity department in Alberton needs you to make it so. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a municipal electricity department on the Alberton side of Gauteng.

The work, day to day

Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works

You'll need

Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating

Nice if you have

Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
