Cashbook and Recon Clerk

You'll keep the books clean and up to date for a construction contractor in Sandton. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a construction contractor in Sandton. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers

• Matric with Accounting
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)

• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks
• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper

• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
