Chainsaw Operator (Timber Felling) – Entry Level

Timber keeps rural towns working, and an eucalyptus plantation near Komani is hiring crews. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Komani; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed

• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Willing to work in remote areas

• Chainsaw operator certificate
• Previous plantation or sawmill experience

• Crew transport to plantations
• Full safety gear provided
• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
