Chainsaw Operator (Timber Felling) – Permanent

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a pine plantation in the hills near Mbombela. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll report in Mbombela. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders

• Willing to work in remote areas
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID

• Crew transport to plantations
• Full safety gear provided
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
