Chiller Technician (Hospitals & Data Centres) – Experienced

Keep cold rooms cold and offices cool for the air-conditioning maintenance company in Tembisa. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at an air-conditioning maintenance company in Tembisa. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a
• Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Check chiller log sheets and water treatment on building service visits

• SAQCC Gas registration as an authorised person for refrigerants
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat

• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores
• Building management system alarm handling
• Experience with VRF systems or chillers

• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns

• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
