Civil Labourer (Road Works)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a school building project in Pretoria East can keep building. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Pretoria East-based, with most of your time spent at a school building project. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Grade 8 or higher
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
