Job Description

You'll help a pharmacy inside a supermarket in eMalahleni dispense scripts, manage stock and advise patients at the counter. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a pharmacy inside a supermarket in eMalahleni. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

The work, day to day

  • Pick, count and label medicine for the pharmacist's final check
  • Process medical aid claims and fix rejections before the patient leaves
  • Prepare monthly chronic packs for collection or courier delivery
  • Capture scripts on the dispensing system and check them against medical aid rules
  • Log Schedule 5 and 6 items in the register as they go out
  • Explain dosage, storage and side effects to patients in plain language
  • Help customers choose over-the-counter and front-shop products

You'll need

  • Understanding of medical aid claim codes and PMB chronic rules
  • SAPC registration as a Pharmacist's Assistant (Basic or Post-Basic)
  • Matric with Maths or Maths Literacy
  • Accurate with numbers and careful with labels
  • Working knowledge of a dispensing system such as Unisolv, Proscript or Healthbridge-linked software
  • Friendly and clear at a busy counter

Nice if you have

  • Wound care or family planning counselling short course
  • Experience in a courier or chronic medication pharmacy
  • Registered for the Post-Basic qualification if you currently hold Basic
