The road is your office with a long-haul freight fleet based in Umlazi, and the load gets there because of you. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

The work is in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads
• Check reefer temperatures and record them on cold-chain loads
• Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
• Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
• Complete border paperwork at Beitbridge, Lebombo or other posts
• Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips

• Medically fit, including eyesight
• Clean driving record with no serious accidents
• Valid Code 14 (EC) licence
• Clean criminal record
• Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
• Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)

• Provident fund and medical aid option
• Well-maintained trucks with sleeper cabs
• Paid PrDP renewal
• Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips

• List the trailer types and routes you have done, for example "tautliner, JHB to Durban, 4 years".
• Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
