Code 14 Flatdeck Driver (Steel Loads)

You'll move heavy loads between Umlazi and depots across the country for a coal haulage contractor. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Umlazi-based, with most of your time spent at a coal haulage contractor. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Deliver to customers and get proof-of-delivery signed and stamped
• Log driving hours and take the required rest breaks
• Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips
• Drive planned routes and stop only at approved truck stops
• Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
• Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
• Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads

• Clean driving record with no serious accidents
• Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
• At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
• Clean criminal record
• Medically fit, including eyesight

• Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
• Dangerous goods training certificate
• Defensive driving course

• Paid PrDP renewal
• Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips
• Well-maintained trucks with sleeper cabs
• Provident fund and medical aid option

• Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
• Put your licence code, PrDP expiry date and years on Code 14 in the first three lines. Transport managers scan for those first.
