Code 14 Refrigerated Truck Driver

You'll move heavy loads between Secunda and depots across the country for a long-haul freight fleet. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a long-haul freight fleet on the Secunda side of Mpumalanga. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Complete border paperwork at Beitbridge, Lebombo or other posts
• Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads
• Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
• Log driving hours and take the required rest breaks
• Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
• Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips
• Check reefer temperatures and record them on cold-chain loads

• Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
• Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
• At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
• Valid Code 14 (EC) licence
• Medically fit, including eyesight

• Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
• Clean record on a telematics driving score
• Dangerous goods training certificate

• Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips
• Provident fund and medical aid option
• Paid PrDP renewal

• Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
• Be honest about accidents or fines. Companies check your driving record anyway and trust drivers who tell them upfront.
