Coded Welder (6G, ASME IX)

The stainless steel equipment manufacturer in Midrand needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll report in Midrand. Relocation is not covered for this one. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool

• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one

• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Orbital or automatic welding experience

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
