Coded Welder (6G, ASME IX) – Experienced

You'll cut, fit and weld steel to drawing in a busy pressure vessel manufacturer in Mossel Bay. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

The work is in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers

• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down

• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1

• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
