Coded Welder (Pressure Vessels) – Experienced

The petrochemical shutdown contractor in Potchefstroom needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll report in Potchefstroom. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging

• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
