Coded Welder (Pressure Vessels)

The petrochemical shutdown contractor in Stellenbosch needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification

• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience
• Rigging or crane signalling certificate

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
