Job Description

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Epping-based, with most of your time spent at a microlender call centre.

The work, day to day

Send written arrangements by SMS or email straight after each call.
Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.
Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.

Must-haves

Registered, or willing to register, with the Council for Debt Collectors
Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations
Target-driven and comfortable with commission
You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not
Clear credit and criminal record
Matric

Helpful, not essential

Experience on a collections system such as Debtmaster or a dialler platform
A second South African language
Legal collections or attorney-firm background
