Job Description

The solar and backup power installer in Montague Gardens needs a qualified electrician who can work neatly and sign off safe installations. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Montague Gardens-based, with most of your time spent at a solar and backup power installer. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

The work, day to day

Replace faulty light fittings, plugs, geyser elements and thermostats
Terminate armoured cable and fit glands on three-phase motor supplies
Test installations and issue Certificates of Compliance where your registration allows
Install inverters, battery banks and changeover switches for backup power clients
Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
Lock out and tag out circuits before any work on live equipment
Install and wire distribution boards, isolators and earth leakage units to SANS 10142-1

You'll need

Comfortable working at heights on ladders and in roof spaces
Electrical trade test certificate (Section 13 or 26D) through a QCTO-accredited centre
Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
Registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Installation Electrician or holding a Wireman's licence
Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter

Nice if you have

Master Installation Electrician registration for three-phase CoCs
PLC and motor control experience from a factory setting
