Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a road rehabilitation project in Montague Gardens, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Montague Gardens, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What your day looks like

Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision

Must-haves

Grade 8 or higher
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
A clean record is preferred for some government sites

Helpful, not essential

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
