Construction General Worker (Building Site)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a low-cost housing development in Secunda can keep building. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Secunda-based, with most of your time spent at a low-cost housing development.

• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes

• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Grade 8 or higher
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
