Construction Manager (Mid-Rise Buildings) – Fixed-Term

This road and stormwater contractor in Kathu needs someone who can read the drawings and get a building out of the ground. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Kathu (Northern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection
• Measure completed work for monthly payment certificates
• Draw up snag lists and close them out before practical completion
• Plan the week's work from the construction programme and brief the gangs each morning
• Order concrete, bricks and steel on time so gangs never stand idle

• You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes
• Working knowledge of the Construction Regulations 2014 under the OHS Act
• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
• National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience

• Vehicle allowance or company bakkie
• Site accommodation on out-of-town projects
• Project completion bonus linked to handover date
• Cellphone and laptop supplied

• Add a short project table to your CV: project name, type, rand value and your role. Contractors hire on project size.
• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
